+1. LGTM. Here's a though though: is there any way for us to give user an indication that a namenode needs to be formatted? Sort of what MySQL does to init the server.

I have been thinking about that patch and think I have been a little bit too aggressive.
So I modified my patch to only remove the formatting lines
