To build a tgz that has source only:

$ mvn clean install -DskipTests -Dassembly.file=src/assembly/src.xml  assembly:single

The product can be found in hbase-assembly/target

To build a binary tgz:

$ mvn clean install -DskipTests javadoc:aggregate  site  assembly:single

Again the product will be in hbase-assembly/target
