Deploying a portlet app WAR file to pluto 1.1
Hi, there,
Does there exist a deployer to deploy a packaged portlet app WAR file to
pluto 1.1?
I remembered there exists one, but i forgot which class does this job, and
how to use.
Thanks in advance.
Regards.

Hi Patrick,
I tried to do Ant deployment of portlets using your build file snippets,
but am getting a NoClassDefFoundError. Can you tell me what jars are
referenced in 'dev-classpath'?
TIA

Hi
I'm using 1.1
Hmm... I thought this was going a bit different but now that I've
looked at my build.xml...
Here's how I do it: compile the source, then "assemble" the web.xml
and create the war file after the other two steps.
I thought there was a way to feed assemble with a whole .war file...

portletxml="${build.dir}/webapp/WEB-INF/portlet.xml"

The maven goals and ant tasks simply call through to the pluto-util
project. In fact, the util project has a cli package which is
intended to provide a command line interface. . .I can't remember if
that was ever completed, but I do think that it's a good idea to flush
it out (just hasn't been my priority yet). If I were you, I'd take
this as a starting point. . .

Go for it! The only comment I'd have would be to minimize the amount
of duplication between the projects by making the cli a simple call
through to the core pluto-util stuff (just like the other 2
interfaces).

I have no preference. . . I do find the APT simpler for docs that
require no custom elements, but I'm ok if we want to standardize on a
single format.

Hi David,
I am considering if we should provide a console-based command for pluto
assembler that
may assemble a packaged WAR file. So that users (if they are not using ant
or maven to
build their project) do not need to write an ant script to assemble their
WARs.
What you think about that?
BTW, do you think it's OK to use XML files instead of APT for the
documentation?
Regards.

If I remember correctly, my thought when I created the ant tasks and
the maven goals was that we should leverage what allready exists and
not duplicate things like the unwar target. . .
can't you just add another task to your target (before the assemble
task) which unwars the war?

Thanks Patrick.
So you are using the FileAssembler which updates only web.xml.
We should have a WAR assembler, i think. The TCK portlet apps are all WAR
files...

Hi, Patrick,
Are you using pluto 1.1 or 1.0.1? I didn't find the WAR file assembler in
pluto 1.1, but it might exist in 1.0.1.
Maybe we forgot to migrate the code to 1.1.

Hello group:
I just glance through pluto 1.1 and see a lot of good stuff in there.
Just wonder if some one has written explanations about pluto maven 2
scripts and its structure, besides articles in pluto resources?
Thanks.

well the current assembler works well with war files. it unzips the
file to a temporary location, extends the web.xml and creates a new
war and overwrites the original one.
you have to provide the web.xml yourself. the bare minimum is
<web-app><display-name>hello</display-name></web-app>

Hi,
Does there exist a console-based command to assemble a portlet app *WAR*
file to webapp *WAR* file?
I checked that pluto provides an assembler to assemble portlet app to
webapp. There is only a FileAssembler, which takes a portlet app directory
as input, and generates the updated web.xml file. So have we implemented a
WarFileAssembler which takes a portlet app *WAR* file, and generates another
WAR file with updated web.xml file? I need it to assemble the TCK portlet
apps. If it does not exist yet, i will try to make one if i got time.
Regards.

(assuming you use tomcat)
I usually just copy the war file into the webapps directory or use the
tomcat deployment ant task.
I find it also very convenient to include a META-INF/context.xml file
instead of manually copying the context.xml to
conf/Catalina/localhost.

Zheng,
There are 3 steps of dpeloyment:
assembly
deployment
publishing
Assembly and publishing are handled by maven plugins or ant tasks
implemented by pluto. Deployment is no different than deployment of
any other webapp, so take a look at something like the maven wagon
plugin.
