1.4a1 release?

i think we should do a first alpha release of 1.4 in the next few weeks,
with a clear warning that this should not be used for any live site...
there are of course many bugs left in 1.4, but at the same time, we want
more widespread testing and feedback for it's major new features like
the usecase framework and publication templating.

Yes, me. I tried to port BXE to the usecase framework, but didn't
succeed. I guess it is easier to keep using the custom flowscript, which
would need some modifications re. the repository handling, check-in/out
etc.

Another issue is the admin area which is not yet feature complete
(IP range administration is not finished).

Build a prototype and present if for discussion.

To be honest, I got pretty stuck in some Avalon topics which is why this
is not finished yet. Remember that drawing

http://wiki.apache.org/lenya/Sitemap2JavaApiContractProposal

I have been spending quite some time with some required fundamentals,
such as how to properly refert to a DTD / XML Schema / RelaxNG schema
with a urn. When I was trying to write a URN source I found that I had a
lack of understanding regarding some practical Avalon concepts. This
lead me to spending some time in Cocoon land and helping them out with
some documentation, see:
http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=34696

(I haven't yet gotten this into Cocoon SVN. I thought from an earlier
discussion that we as Lenya committers had read-write rights to the
Cocoon SVN as well, but obviously I haven't. I have obtained permission
from the Cocoon guys
(http://www.mail-archive.com/dev@cocoon.apache.org/msg30334.html). I
told them I couldn't check it in, but they haven't found the time yet
obviously.

Back to track:

I want all this urn stuff for my BXE 2.0 experiments. I try to come up
with a BXE 2.0 module which will

- separate the editor from resource types
- provide a place to plug or even refer to an unmodified version of the
editor
- demonstrate a potential editor plugin API

Torsten

I am. In IMO this should be in a workable state before a 1.4 alpha release.

BTW: I would spell alpha out to make it clearer, i.e. 1.4-alpha-1

No, actually I just meant the core features for now:
- saving in BXE
- inserting asset in BXE (the upload via the asset button works, but the
object does not get inserted)
- saving in Kupu

Re. Torsten's mail, I don't know whether it would be duplication of
efforts to address these at this time.

good point, i will hold off then.

hard to say. the current editor integration bugs are all solvable with
tweaking of XSL and maybe adding additional pipelines

IMO this is about both.
I am currently about to get a suggestion checked into the Sandbox
regarding the ideas we have discussed earlier regarding a proper editor
API. I am not sure how much value there is in fixing integration bugs
that relate to the current concept of editor integration.

If you feel that whatever is the reason for the bug is pretty
independent of how the editor is integrated, then you could of course
fix it. But if you feel you can wait some days this could save
duplication of efforts.

Torsten

can you give some more details? what do you mean with completed? since
they are already integrated today, i suppose you mean either a common
editor interface, or fixing the open editor integration bugs from
http://wiki.apache.org/lenya/14Planning , or both?

i'd like to work on this if i know what needs to be done

absolutely. the idea is to expose the current state to a wider audience
and get more feedback (and find bugs, etc)

IMO editor integration (BXE, Kupu), including asset handling, should be
completed before any 1.4 alpha release. Is someone currently working on
this ?
On another subject, I hope to finish this week the metadata handling we
discussed recently, but this will be transparent to a casual user anyway.

Once editor integration is OK, I would be +1 for an 1.4 alpha, if we
agree that "alpha" means that there may still be significant changes in
functionality & internals between alpha and beta.
