[jira] [Created] (FLINK-18127) Streamline manual execution of Java E2E tests

Chesnay Schepler created FLINK-18127:
----------------------------------------

Summary: Streamline manual execution of Java E2E tests
                 Key: FLINK-18127
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLINK-18127
             Project: Flink
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: Test Infrastructure
            Reporter: Chesnay Schepler
            Assignee: Chesnay Schepler
             Fix For: 1.12.0

The execution of e2e tests generally requires at least 1-2 properties to be set; {{distDir}} for locating the Flink distribution that should be used, and {{moduleDir}} for location the module the test resides in, for locating required jars thar are placed in the modules {{target}} directory.

{{distDir}} always must be set manually, while {{moduleDir}} is automatically set by maven, and hence must only be set manually when running the test in the IDE.

This is a bit tedious and multiple people have reached out to me on how to get the tests to run in the IDE.
To remedy this we can try to auto-detect these directories, if they are not set.
