This seems like more of a system load issue to me. The fact that you were able to get far enough to generate a {{TimedOutException}} implies that everything more or less "worked."
You might be better served by looking into throttling options available to mariadb's bulk load or increasing the amount of hardware (and not using a VM).
I'm going to mark this as closed/won't fix given this is out of scope from the project's perspective. It might be worth opening a thread on the user mailing list asking if anyone else has tuned mariadb's bulk load for this.
