Summary:
Unable to open MSWord97-2003 file with AOO 4.1.1 Writer, error message
received.
Environments tested:
Intel Core i5-3230M/8Gb/128GbSSD/GeForce740m - Windows 7 64bit, Windows 10
64bit, Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS
Mac Mini Late 2014 Intel Core i5-1.4Ghz/4Gb/500Gb HDD/Intel HD5000 - Mac OS X
10.11.4
AOO Versions 4.1.1 and 4.1.2
Preconditions: Files created with MS Office 2003, LibreOffice 5.1.1.3, AOO
4.1.2 in MS Word 97-2003 format were used for testing purposes.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a MS Word file using MS Word, LibreOffice Writer and AOO Writer.
2. Save the file using MS Word 97-2003 format.
3. Open the file using AOO Writer.
Expected results:
AOO Writer won’t open a file in MS Word 97-2003 format.
Actual results:
AOO Writer opens MS Word 97-2003 format file without any issues.
Comments:
I was unable to replicate the issue using all those environments and files.
Impossible to perform any further investigation without the initial reporter’s
file which caused the issue.
Attachment above this comment is the Word 97-2003 file I was testing with, It
was created in MS Word 2003. I'm adding 2 more attachment below.

If there is no confidential information, can you please attach the document
that fails to open?
We do not have enough information to be able to reproduce this situation.
Part of the problem is that while a file may have the .doc extension, it might
actually not be in MSWord97-2003 format. It should still be possible to open
it, but the actual format may not have been detected properly.
More details of the actual document file are needed in order to determine the
cause of it being rejected by Apache OpenOffice 4.1.1.
If it is inappropriate to post the file as an attachment here, please send it
as an email attachment to me, orcmid @ apache.org, with [PRIVATE] in the
subject and I will explore it privately, adding any findings to this report.

Your bug report is being closed as NOT_AN_ISSUE due to a lack of information
which is needed in order to accurately reproduce and confirm the problem. We
need the following information (please ignore any that you've already
provided):
a) Provide details of your operating system (x86 or x64?)
b) Provide a step-by-step procedure to reproduce (the simpler will be the
better)
c) Provide any test case(s) which will help us confirm the problem (like a
sample document)
d) Provide screenshots of the problem if you think it might help
Once all of this is done, please set the bug back to UNCONFIRMED and we will
attempt to reproduce the issue.

No problem to open dummy_test_file.doc with AOO 4.2.0 and Win10 x64. Marking as

1. O.S. System Both x64 & x86
2. Windows 7 Home & Office and Windows 10 Professional
3. Procedure:
3a. Received document
3b. Clicked on document to OPEN.
3c. Open Office generated message: "This is not a WinWord97 file".
3d. File will not open
4. Tried the same using Libre Office.
4a. File opened with no problems.
5. Leads me to believe either Open Office does not support MSWord97-2003.
5a. Or there is a Open Office Setting that is not set correctly.

No problem to open dummy_test_file.doc with AOO 4.1.2 and Win7 x64 Pro
