That "Expected/saw" stuff

Hmmmm... it shouldn't matter, but we should test to see if this still
happens if we change the defines for, for example, end_directory_section
from [] to * (ie *end_directory_section). Obviously the compiler
is bogusing up the pointers so they don't match.
