Indexing and contains() in the XPath

Hello all, 

we have one problem and one question. 

We read in old postings about: "The indexer can't create indexes for a full
text search with contains() in the XPath." or in other words: "The indexer
doesn't operate with contains() in XPath."

At the moment we use the version 1.0. 

And now our question: 

Is a solution for our problem in sight or is this implemented yet in version
1.1b?
