Posted by Abhishek Girish <ab...@gmail.com>.
I think this could be an issue with the Windows batch file - the way it
handles spaces & quotes within arguments. The reason I previously asked for
the value of your JAVA_HOME was to see if there were any spaces or issue
with quotes - and we clearly see a space (...."gra*m Fi*les...") in
JAVA_HOME. And i think thats the "Files" part in "Files was unexpected at
this time."

You could (1) file a JIRA, since users might have such an environment and
Drill should handle it accordingly. And (2) as a work-around, can you move
your Drill & Java install location to say "C:/" and update env variables
accordingly?

Can you do a small check - see what value is set for JAVA_HOME. Want to
check if it has additional or wrong quotes for one.

I never tried it but I think Drill should run on Windows, or at least
start. Also, several users reported they were able to run Drill with JDK
8.0.

Do you have JDK installed or just the JRE ? Drill requires the JDK and not
just the Java runtime.

To make it easier, given that Oracle pushes Java 8 automatically on desktops,
have a separate Java 7 install and have a startup script for Drill that
sets JAVA_HOME to Java 7.

Re: Error : \apache-drill-1.1.0\conf was unexpected at this time.

Paolo--Screenshots do not show up in user list email. Drill doesn't support
Java 8 as the docs say. I tried to install Drill 1.1.0 on Windows 7 using
JDK 8 from Oracle to see if it would work despite lack of official
support. Drill does not start up. Sorry for the bad news.

Hi Abdel,

as I showed in the screen shot the enviroments is :

java version "1.8.0_60"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_60-b27)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 25.60-b23, mixed mode)

I followed the steps from this link:
http://drill.apache.org/docs/drill-in-10-minutes/

I put the folder apache-drill1.1 into the C:\Program Files (x86) and i ran
the command sqlline.bat -u "jdbc:drill:zk=local"

Thanks for your support,
Paolo
