   ## Problem
   
   The new architecture rejects Direct volumes. Users cannot yet browse an existing object namespace without importing it into YinYang-managed metadata; the historical ofs implementation is not current support.
   
   ## Scope
   
   Implement a Direct namespace with storage-native authority and expose it through a selected Mount frontend. Define reversible naming and capability reporting independently from Managed identity and transaction guarantees.
   
   ## Acceptance criteria
   
   - [ ] List and read existing objects without creating authoritative YinYang namespace metadata or rewriting existing data.
   - [ ] Handle unrepresentable names, normalization/case collisions and external writers without silently hiding or overwriting objects.
   - [ ] Define stable behavior for observed object versions and concurrent replacement, including range-read integrity guarantees actually available from the backend.
   - [ ] Keep the default read-only and reject unsupported operations before changing storage.
   - [ ] Validate a real selected frontend against an existing object namespace and publish the supported backend capability requirements.
   
   ## Planning
   
   Milestone: M3. Primary direction: Direct / Mount. Architecture index: #19.
   
   ## Baseline
   
   [Current contract](https://github.com/apache/opendal-yinyang/blob/1146781a127a7fa3ad2afee3e3ca8c823d659013/specs/volume-capabilities.md) at main `1146781`, verified 2026-10-26. Existing native observations describe the documented prototype; this issue does not claim new acceptance results.
