question on the .svn folder

Hi,

I recently reinitiated my efforts in using SVN for
my projects.

I have a question about the .svn folder.  Is it
possible to generate it manually in a newly
imported folder?

Just say I svn import a folder on a server that
contains miscellaneous projects by the company
with different permissions(sharing and security).
(Using a Win2k server, btw).

Now I just imported the whole project directory
to my newly installed svn repository.  That's
ok.  But then I realized that in order for
svn (or TortoiseSVN) to keep track of the project,
I'd need to remove the whole directory and
then check it out.  Unfortunately, that'd
reset all the permissions and I really don't
want to do that.   Perhaps I'm being a tad
bit lazy here and hoping to avoid any
permission headaches. (Setting up that
project directory was a headace in itself.
I do not want to repeat that migraine.)

So given the fact that the project was just
imported and no one is working on that
project(i.e. not even using the
project directory),  is it possible to
generate the .svn as if I had checked
out the folder?
