Ismael Juma commented on KAFKA-16426:
-------------------------------------

It stores state (a class) - how will that be handled statically?

> KAFKA-14524 ([PR-13067|https://github.com/apache/kafka/pull/13067]) migrated {{KafkaMetricsGroup}} from Scala to Java. In doing so, we overlooked initialising {{KafkaMetricsGroup}} instances statically. This results in allocating many more {{KafkaMetricsGroup}} instances than are required.
