I can confirm this behavior on large updates/checkouts. The problem started when I moved the database from a server running Apache 2.0.54 and SVN 1.4.0 to a new server running Apache 2.2.8 and SVN 1.4.6. The repository is about ~5 GB and is using BDB.
I tried downgrading to Apache 2.2.6 which is the version that SVN 1.4.6 is compiled with, but there was no change.
The Apache log says:
[error] Provider encountered an error while streaming a REPORT response. [500, #0]
[error] A failure occurred while driving the update report editor [500, #190004]
