Serious, unpredictable bug in Xalan-C-1.0

Hello,

We have begun using Xalan-C for document processing for the kUML
project (http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/kuml). In doing so we have
run across the following bug which is currently forcing us to use
Xalan-C-0.40.

The enclosed attachments includes the files example.xml, example.dtd
and example.xsl. This is the simplest test case I've found which
reproduces the following bug with Xalan-C-1.0 : Xalan-C-0.40 did not do
this. The bug is unpredictable in the sense that minor changes
to the DTD can cause it to appear or disappear.

    >testXSLT -in example.xml -xsl example.xsl
