Dave Taylor's recommendations:

1. Do something like the Preview mode, a generic PrintFriendlyPortlet and a
single PSML resource, which would dynamically load a portlet using a clear
control.

2. Change the jetspeed controls to check a velocity context variable for
$printFriendly, and don't display the icons if in this mode. You could also
use a different layout/template to remove navigations.

I think I prefer #1
