ApacheCON Austin status.

Hi all.

ApacheCON Austin is now history, but what a conference.
I actually got to see and touch the original feather.

The keynotes was as usual of high quality, the videos will be uploaded
on youtube. There was especially one keynote, that addressed behavior
on the mailing lists, it talked (in good US terminology) about grouping the
mails in DEFCON1-5 based on the tone used. I admit that I learned a couple
of simple things how not to escalate a situation..

AOO did not have presentations, but I talked with many about AOO.

I had short a talk with Danese Cooper, who gave me some interesting input,
but far too short.

I had a long and interesting talk with Zaheda Bhorat, who filled some of my
gaps around the period of the split and the beginning of OpenOffice. She has
worked with the British Government, who then selected the odf standard. She
had some real interesting user views, about the split between AOO and
TDF/LO.
She had ideas on how the future should look like, and to me, it was very
interesting
to get a non-technical user opinion.

I also had the opportunity to talk with several board members about our
current status. The current board report triggered an awareness that we
(AOO) need to move faster in changing our situation. I also got a
confirmation,
that such decisions come from the community and not the board, the board
observe and help (if requested).

I had hoped to meet other AOOers, but hope I will see a lot of you in
Budapest
(september 28 - october 1).
