So...no real supported couch tools for windows?

Hello,

Long time lurker and dabbler here.since couchapp (which seemed to work
pretty well.) was deprecated several other tools have apparently filled the
void for developing couchapps. The two most prominent appear to be Erica and
kanso. Neither of these seem to have working windows versions - the kanso
directions for windows install didn't really pan out for me, and the Erica
windows binary that I heard rumors about doesn't seem to be around (nothing
on the git download page at least - there is a post to the list from late
November with an obscure dropbox account containing an Erica.cmd file -- is
this for real?). If you are stuck in win-land, are you also pretty much
stuck without any supported tools for couchdb? I am back to using couchapp
since it seems to Just Work T. If any one has other experiences or
non-deprecated toolsets for developing couchapps that work for them on
Windows (which I am stuck using) I'd love to hear about it.

TIA

- N

There is a Windows branch of Kanso: https://github.com/kanso/kanso/tree/windows

Visit #Kanso on Freenode for assistance (I got help immediately
getting this going)

Hi Benoît,

The code is already there -we build a working version for the platform you
compile on. I just pushed a change that builds a windows and a unix
escript by default on all platforms, as the beam files are portable and we
are using mochijson across the board now. It works for me of course. But
this should make it easy to keep versions updated & released. Build on
unix, use on windows.

So long as we distribute erica with an R14* based build I think it works
for R14/15/16 which will be the baseline for windows users for the
forseeable future.

I've not looked at erlang releases yet but this might be a bit complicated
for first-time windows users. Erm and me. But I guess I need to learn it
soon. Up to you.

Where's the best place to store the binaries then?

A+
Dave

one of the problems noob windows users like me face is that they sometimes
not even realize that the installation or rather build instructions
presented are meant for linux and don't work on windows. So it would be
good help to clearly mention that these instructions only work on linux/mac
and not on windows
If not it is entirely possible that somenone spends quite some time trying
to figure out how to get this to work in the windows command tool...
from a quick look erica (for example) seems to fit this

sorry but I guess some of us windows users are dumber than expected
;-)

And yeah, this community is extremely helpful when you ask. If you're the
type who tries hard before asking then better documentation would be a
great help though

Dave,

What is missing to add full windows build to the erica repository? Do
you think it would ease the build to provide an Erlang release
instead? (I think it will).

Let me know,

Hi Nathan,

I'm glad to hear we are not alone in windows land :-).

There are working erica binaries here, the obscure dropbox acct is where I
post stuff while I'm working on it - couchdb snapshots etc.

http://people.apache.org/~dch/dist/tools/

I think this is an Erlang R14B or higher compatible build, so it should
work with all current couchdb binaries, and I'll add some install
instructions to the erica website.

TL;DR put it in %COUCHDB%/bin/ (where your werl.exe etc are) and add that
bin dir to your path in whatever shell you use.

Any issues let me know and I'll help you sort them out.

Where did you look, that you'd like a link to a binary?

A+
Dave

The Erica tool for Windows works perfectly.
Just go on the irc channel for couchdb and ask around : I was able to get
the .Cmd file you mentioned.
But it isn't published anywhere at the moment you are right about that.

Cheers

Tristan.
