Summary: Tomcat 5.5.7 could not be started on Redhat Enterprise
                    V3.0 linux
           Product: Tomcat 5
           Version: 5.5.7
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: Catalina
        AssignedTo: tomcat-dev@jakarta.apache.org
        ReportedBy: sueder14@hotmail.com

Hi there,

I found the tomcat 5.5.7 (also 5.5.6) binary could not be started on Redhat
Enterprise V3.0. The logs refered as the following:

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/tomcat/util/digester/Rule
       at java.lang.Class.getDeclaredConstructors0(Native Method)
       at java.lang.Class.privateGetDeclaredConstructors(Class.java:1610)
       at java.lang.Class.getConstructor0(Class.java:1922)
       at java.lang.Class.newInstance0(Class.java:278)
       at java.lang.Class.newInstance(Class.java:261)
       at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.init(Bootstrap.java:201)
       at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.main(Bootstrap.java:386)

But it ran OK for tomcat 5.5.4 on the same machine. What is the problem for the
above error messages?

Thanks in advance!

Sueder
