Thx, Dennis,

You're right, it's an error in my comment. I can't commit it actually, if
Lukas can do it..

  Otherwise, +1 for all.

Re: [vote] [m1] plugin releases

Hi Lukas

First off, thanks for pushing out new versions of all the Maven 1 plugins!

Reading through the changes report for the site plugin I couldn't quite
understand one thing. There seems to be an error in the changes report
[1] for maven-site-plugin-1.7. The comments made in issue MPSITE-39 [2]
says that the default value for maven.site.chmod.mode is now 775 but the
changes file says 755. The plugin.properties file in SVN [3] also says
775. So it seems that changes.xml needs to be changed.

Re: [vote] [m1] plugin releases

When you have changed a plugin it's always better to call a fake goal (such
as cleanr or something) to make sure the cache is up-to-date. Some plugins
have a weird behavior in this case (such as the site/xdoc plugins)

Cheers,
Stéphane

Re: [vote] [m1] plugin releases

Posted by Dennis Lundberg <de...@apache.org>.
Hello

It seems that there was a glitch during the upgrade. I tried a couple of other projects and they all ran fine. So I went back and tried my project again, and it worked.
Then I looked back to the beginning of the session and found this snippet right at the start:

plugin maven-site-plugin-1.6.1 is cached (goal) but no longer present
Cache invalidated due to out of date plugins
Plugin 'maven-xdoc-plugin' in project 'JetStyle' is not available
Plugin 'maven-xdoc-plugin' in project 'JetStyle' is not available
Plugin 'maven-xdoc-plugin' in project 'JetStyle' is not available
Plugin 'maven-xdoc-plugin' in project 'JetStyle' is not available
build:start:
...

So your suspicion that it had something to do with the plugin cache seems correct. Anyway, things seems to be working nicely now. Sorry for the false alarm.

Re: [vote] [m1] plugin releases

Hi Dennis,

Can you try to clean your plugins cache ?
The new site plugin doesn't need a newer release of the xdoc plugin.
It seems that maven lost your xdoc plugin 1.9.2.

Re: [vote] [m1] plugin releases

Posted by Lukas Theussl <lt...@apache.org>.
There is a bug in the plugin caching mechanism in m1.0. Sometimes just
running the same goal a second time resolves the problem (or running a
fake goal, as Stephane suggests), but the best thing to do is just
clearing your cache.

However, I don't know exactly under which circumstances this happens, if
someone can clarify that we could add a note somewhere in the docs.

Thanks,

Lukas,

I tried the site plugin on a SourceForge project I work on, but the site generation fails. Here's what I did:
- maven clean
- maven site (all is well)
- maven clean
- upgrade from maven-site-plugin-1.6.1 to maven-site-plugin-1.7-SNAPSHOT
- maven site (ERROR see below)

...

xdoc:generate-from-pom:
[echo] Generating xdocs from POM ...

I'm using Maven 1.0.2 and have xdoc-plugin 1.9.2 installed. Does the new site plugin require a newer version of the xdoc-plugin?

Here's the address to the SF project if someone wants to have a go:
   http://sourceforge.net/projects/jetstyle/

Re: [vote] [m1] plugin releases

Posted by Lukas Theussl <lt...@apache.org>.

You are right, this is by design. I prefer to have a build fail by
default, even if the error is minor, because otherwise I tend to
overlook things.

The problem with sourceforge is that remote users don't have the right
to change the permission for the root site directory (htdocs), so the
corresponding chmod command always fails.

You are also right that this needs to be documented better, I will add a
BIG note in the changelog. :)

Thanks again for your testing and feedback!

Re: [vote] [m1] plugin releases

Posted by Dennis Lundberg <de...@apache.org>.
It's me again...

After getting the project site built correctly, I then tried to sshdeploy it to SourceForge using the new site-plugin. It didn't go all that well. Having switched back and
forth between 1.6.1 and 1.7-SNAPSHOT I have found one thing that's different in 1.7. This might be by design, looking at the resolved issues MPSITE-28 and MPSITE-34.

There are a couple of errors from [exec] using either version. It's about directories that can't be unlinked. Not sure what that means. In 1.6.1 these are ignored by the
plugin and the build succeeds. In 1.7-SNAPSHOT, on the other hand, the build fails. In both cases the site is in fact deployed and working. But because the 1.7-SNAPSHOT
build fails there is a file (the .tar file) left on the server that doesn't get cleaned away. This prevents prevents subsequent site deploys from succeeding. I had to log
in and manually remove that file. See the logs below.

Reading Fabrizios comments on MPSITE-34 I realize that he had the exact same problem. This was supposed to have been fixed by that issue, but the default value for
maven.site.failonerror=true in plugin.properties. This means that everyone with a SF project who upgrades to site-plugin-1.7 has to add this property with a value of false,
to their own project.properties file.

May I suggest that we either change the default value to false, to remain backwards compatible, or add a BIG note about this somewhere.
