check job status on different nodes

Hi,

Is there a way to make sure the job is actually got
distributed to different nodes? Is there a command
to check the task status associated with each box?

On the slave box's log, I see
...Lost connection to JobTracker ...
java.io.IOExceptioin: No valid local directories.
    at org.apache.hadoop.mapred.JobConf.getLocalFile
(JobConf.java:155)
    at
org.apache.hadoop.mapred.JobConf.getLocalFile(JobConf.java:129)
    at
org.apache.hadoop.mapres.TaskTracker$TaskInProcess.localizeTask(TaskTracker.java:382)

Are these normal? When do people usually put their
jar files?

thanks,

Joseph
