XenServer merge VHD snapshots

The scenario:  You make nightly snapshots of your VM, each night there is a
new VHD added to the chain on the primary storage.

How can I tell XenServer to merge those chains without affecting cloudstack
or the running VM?  Currently I have 1 chain that's taking up 1.3GB and I
believe it could be reduced by about 400GB, while operating if I can merge
two leaves live.
