AvalonCon London, Thurs 11th Oct.

OK, it's at the Bricklayers Arms, Charlotte St in the city. It's
completely unofficial as in there is nobody there representing Apache
directly.

Here's the map of the loacation
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=533211&Y=182473&A=Y&Z=1
(arrow placed courtesy of Pratik)
Here's a lame review of the pub
http://www.pubs-bars.co.uk/barshtml/bricklayers.htm

Kickoff at 6:30, bring yer own pad if yer fancy doodling. If people are
still there after 8:30, there's a well recommended Thai resteraunt
upstairs, that may become the relocated venue for activities.

I think our numbers are up to about six so far. The more, the merrier
though.

Regards,

It's going ahead tonight given that the tube stike will not affect
people until 11pm. All the below is still true. PLEASE come along if
you are near to London and fancy a distracting couple of hours with
geeks....

You can also check the LogKitManager configuration file for Cocoon 2
which configures several log targets with combined rotating strategies
(time and size) :

Hi Boris,

I'm afraid that there are not too many examples. Maybe these two links will
shed some light:

Sorry, since I am not finding much sample code in LogKit's download, can
somebody point me some resource on it? Particularly, now I need to create a
target with daily rotated file named kind of by current date. Thanks in
advance, Boris.

I know this bug ;) (Happens to me all the time)

It probably means you have cut and paste the text from your mail client into
your text editor. Your text editor is Unicode enabled (emacs?) and writes the
0xa0 silently (0xa0 is start of a 2 byte character).

Best fix is to go delete all the whitespace in area that you copy + pasted
and then retry it ;)

Well it is expected that you include example.log in another file with a top
level element. The reason for this is to make it more difficult to end up
with a invalid XML tree if the logging shuts down uncleanly.

I think you will have to be more specific with your request. The website
jakarta.apache.org/avalon/logkit has a whitepaper that describes the basics
of LogKit if that helps.

different projects doing the same thing different ways. LogKit has an
emphasis on speed, security and use in a serverside environment. LogKit tries
to enforce safety by limiting access to Logger trees. Only children of
current logger can be accessed unless you have Hierarchy object in which

Well it is expected that you include my.xml.log in another file with a top
level element. The reason for this is to make it more difficult to end up
with a invalid XML tree if the logging shuts down uncleanly. So you would do
something like

<?xml version="1.0" ?>

<!DOCTYPE logentrys [<!ENTITY logdata SYSTEM "my.xml.log">]>

<logentrys>
  &logdata;
</logentrys>

To remove CData wrapper you would need to create a new formatter that is
basically a copy of XMLFormatter but writes it out in format you want.
(However I wouldn't recomend this as then a log statement could break your
xml file.

Hello to all honorable members of Log4j list. I would appreciate your
general comment on the libraty Jakarta/Avalon/LogKit that you do not
mention as your peer in documentation. My company decided to use it noting
that they used to have some compatibility issues with Log4j-Weblogic in the
past. LogKit is scarcely documented and has no specific mailing list. If you
share concepts with that project, can I ask some questions on your list
instead? Particularly, their XMLFormatter outputs event elements with no
wrapping root. If you do the same for economical reasons, what is a general
way to query such  semi-documents?
