Releases...

Folks,

Can we push forward some releases of bits of Avalon. I propose no new
features, just a release refelcting the changes we have made so far to
directories etc. I hope for the first time ever, we can release
Cornerstone too. I would like to separate into interface and impl jars
first though....

Thoughts?

Perhaps, but as soon as we ship something historically we have frozen
APIs. This also jars not so? Ignoring what we are drawing to
completion on for Excalibur at the moment...
I want to be more ready for when Phoenix can seperate classloaders for
blocks in sars. See following message....

Regards,

will try to get things working via dialup and Vaio (SRX41 :-))

Please could you help me out with the checklists. You and Berin are the
veterans here present of releases. And hints would be appreciated.

I still need to get the docs for the Instrument packages done. To see
the basics,
take a look at the example in the instrument-manager package. It shows
you how
to get an Instrumentable component up and running with an InstrumentManager.

To see the instrument data, you will need to run a client. The client
can be run by
building and running the example in the instrument-client package.

The instument package is pretty much stable. I am still adding features
to the
instrument-manager and instrument-client packages.

Take a look at the examples, but let me know if something doesn't make
sense. :-)

Cheers,
Leif

I believe there is a small example app in CVS:

http://cvs.apache.org/viewcvs/jakarta-avalon-excalibur/instrument-manager/example/

Here's an archive thread with some basic info on the design:

We may have to use the instrument stuff in our next project so I had a
look at it. It looks amazing!

I am quite excited about trying it now but so much work has been put
into it I feel it's gonna take me ages to learn ;-)
Do we have any kind of "Intrument for Dummies" docs somewhere?

Use the file attached if you have installed truetype fonts (replace
$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/font.properties).

I recently migrated to Linux as well and it's great. My only concern is with
the horrible font IntelliJ uses. I just can't get used to it. The one on
Windows looks so great but I can't make IDEA works with the windows font I
imported.

Anyone got a solution?

+1 for a beta of those two. I don't have time to be release manager
either, tho'.

agreed. It's a considerable amount of work which would delay
releases quite a bit.

If you want to be release manager then +1 on releasing cornerstone/phoenix
etc.

The excalibur components can be releasedwhen our build story is worked out.
