[users@httpd] Tomcat fresh install startup problems no idea why

Hello,

I have just installed tomcat on win2k and everything appeared to install cleanly.
I get the following error message when I try to run startup.bat
(from the error log)

java.lang.NullPointerException
	at org.apache.catalina.startup.BootstrapService.init(BootstrapService.java, Compiled Code)
	at org.apache.catalina.startup.BootstrapService.main(BootstrapService.java, Compiled Code)

Below is the output of the attempted server startup.

C:\PROGRA~1\APACHE~1\TOMCAT~1.1\bin>startup.bat
Using CATALINA_BASE:   ..
Using CATALINA_HOME:   ..
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: ..\temp
Using JAVA_HOME:       c:\jdk1.2.2
C:\PROGRA~1\APACHE~1\TOMCAT~1.1\bin>

Any idea's?
