Region before page header/table question and issue with table

I have set up the region-before for both odd and even pages the following way: inside edge logo and outside edge retrieved marker to a title on page. Since I don't know any better (when it comes to FO) and a quick solution to get this done I created a two cell table (with bottom border) and aligned the content accordingly to the edge of the page.

First question is, is there a better method to do this? I mean not using a table.

Second question is, when a title is too long it breaks into two lines which is okay (and done in the FrameMaker file) but it pushes the table down or a better description would be it changes the table height. When this is done that page's header no longer aligns with the accompanying page's header. I've set a table height and it appears to be more than sufficient to fit two lines of text. What am I doing wrong and what am I missing?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mario,

I have two blocks that overlap. Of course this only works without background-color. The block for the left text is only as wide as necessary, the block for the right text spans the whole page (minus right margin, of course).

The headers on odd and even pages should start at the same height, no matter how many lines. The content of course ends at different heights, so the header should be high enough to fit the longest content. This means, the space between the last header line and the first body line depends on the number of lines, but you can not avoid that, I'm afraid. If you have a separating line below your header and this line is on different heights on different pages, wrap your header blocks in another block as high as the header and add a border to this block.

In case you want the last line of the headers always at the same height ( => header lines do not 'hang' from the top line but 'sit' on the bottom line), change the vertical alignment of the outer block.

Regards,

Georg Datterl

What I mean is if the header on the odd page has a title that is split into two lines and the even page title is only on a single line, then the odd page's title is lower on the page (from the top edge) than the even page's header. In other words the table on the odd pages header has gained in height. So now the lower edges of both these pages do not match. One is lower than the other.

I will give your idea a try. Do I use the same method I would in CSS to float one block on the other side of the other? Or do I use something like an absolute position to set this up?

Hi Mario,

I use two static blocks with different alignment, which share the same (vertical) space. But I did not understand what page header doesn't align with what page header when you have two lines...
