Summary: Resumable HTTP1.1 download/upload (RANGE header)
Product: HttpClient
Version: Nightly Builds
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: Commons HttpClient
AssignedTo: httpclient-dev@jakarta.apache.org
ReportedBy: hauser@acm.org
Hi,
org.apache.commons.httpclient.HttpStatus.SC_REQUESTED_RANGE_NOT_SATISFIABLE
appears to reference the http RANGE method.
We would like to offer resumable download/upload and HttpClient would a #1
candidate to work on this. Apart from SC_REQUESTED_RANGE_NOT_SATISFIABLE, it
doesn't appear to be implemented within httpClient.
Do you have an idea how to best do this?
Do you think this also works for upload, i.e. a "multipart/form-data" post?
I guess for upload, one would also have to extend
org.apache.commons.fileupload.disk.DiskFileItem.DiskFileItem(
to know what its supposed full length is and to record where it stopped...
What do you think?
Ralf
P.S.: At least the tomcat counterpart appears to support it with
org.apache.catalina.servlets.DefaultServlet.parseRange(HttpServletRequest
request, HttpServletResponse response, ResourceAttributes resourceAttributes)

HttpClient is not a browser and is not meant to support resumable
download/upload. This functionality can be built on top of a generic HTTP
library such as Commons HttpClient

You can use Content-Range or a custom header similar to Content-Range or a
hidden fields in the "multipart/form-data" encoded body to pass the range of the
uploaded conent.

As useful as this can be for some users this code should not be in HttpClient proper
