Hostname Verification not working !!

Hi All,

I am trying to access a webservice via IP address 
(https://192.168..........)
The certificate is issued to a different name (CN is different ..)
so the Hostname Verification check should fail and an  IO Exception should 
be thrown .
but this is not happening . I am not getting any IOException..

When accessed from Internet explorer the certificate pop-up shows that the 
names do not match ..

Kindly throw some light on this behavior.
