[GitHub] [netbeans] XIAOXIAOSIYU opened a new issue, #6175: The CSS class name completion doesn't work
XIAOXIAOSIYU opened a new issue, #6175:
URL: https://github.com/apache/netbeans/issues/6175
### Apache NetBeans version
Apache NetBeans 18
### What happened
The CSS class name completion somehow doesn't work since I upgrade my Netbeans from version 17 to 18.
### How to reproduce
I really have no idea how to reproduce this problem on your side.
I use Netbeans (V17) every day, and one day I saw an update (V18) reminder and then I went for it. I always upgrade if the new version came up, and it worked always perfectly as I expected.
After downloading and installing the new version, I ran it and everything was OK but the CSS completion didn't work.
### Did this work correctly in an earlier version?
Apache NetBeans 17
### Operating System
Windows 10 version 10.0 running on amd64; UTF-8; en_US (nb)
### JDK
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 20.0.1+9-29
### Apache NetBeans packaging
Apache NetBeans provided installer
### Anything else
The CSS completion never worked since I upgraded.
### Are you willing to submit a pull request?
No

Before coming here, I spent a lot of time searching online for a solution. I came across several individuals who were experiencing the same issue, and some recommended deleting the cache folder as a possible fix. I attempted this method, but unfortunately, it did not resolve the problem.

When I said I tried this problem on a new project, we almost did the same thing, the only difference is I didn't put the CSS style class in a separate .css file, I wrote them directly in the HTML file between <head></head>, the result is the same, Intellisense does not display anything.

I understand that it is important to you that you're able to reproduce this issue on your side! but just like I mentioned before, I just saw a new version released and then I [went here](https://netbeans.apache.org/download/nb18/) to download, got it installed, and then ran it. Use the new version to open the existing project, and Intellisense does not display CSS-style class names anymore. What steps do you want me to provide?

matthiasblaesing commented on issue #6175:

So what I mean by steps to reproduce is this:
1. Start NetBeans with a clean userdir (I run on linux from zip with: `bin/netbeans-18/bin/netbeans --userdir csstest --cachedir csstest`)
2. Create a new HTML5 Project: File -> New Project, Choose Category "HTML5/Javascript", select "HTML5/JS Application" and then "Next"
3. Wait until the feature is activated
4. Accept defaults by pressing "Finish"
5. Create a new file `test.css` in the `Site Root` folder:
```css
.error {
color: firebrick;
}
.ok {
color: darkgreen;
}
```
6. Open the pre-generated file `index.html`
7. Insert an empty line after the last `metatag` and fill it with:
```html
<link href="test.css" rel="stylesheet" />
```
8. Place caret behind the `div` of the `div`-Element in the body and enter ` class="`
9. Call code completion (CTRL+Space)
This is what I get:

This looks ok to me.
The steps don't need to be like that, if you have a project you can share or better a minimal project, that only contains required parts, and can tell me how to reproduce the problem it is ok too. Essentially a packed project will eliminate the setup steps.

And I use master at work and at home and did not notice. So please provide steps to reproduce. What do I have to do to see what you are seeing. Sorry, but I put more than enough time into NetBeans and I will not start a bug hunt if I don't even know, that there is a real problem.

I have tried both the current project and a new project using the latest version (18), and have noticed that Intellisense does not display CSS style class names. This seems to be an issue regardless of the project.

I don't know why but this time it works!
Here is how I did it:
1. Download installer from: https://dlcdn.apache.org/netbeans/netbeans-installers/18/Apache-NetBeans-18-bin-windows-x64.exe
2. Installation process:
2.1 Uncheck Java SE and Java EE
2.2 Says 'The specified installation folder is not empty, I delete that folder (I guess that was generated from the last time I install the application) and the error information disappeared and then I click on 'Next>'
3. I left other options as default
4. The installation was completed, then I ran it.
5. Create a new HTML5 Project: File -> New Project, Choose Category "HTML5/Javascript", select "HTML5/JS Application" and then "Next"
6. The creation process asks for Site Template, I choose No Site Template, then "Next"
7. The creation process asks for Tools, I uncheck all 4 of them, then "Finish"
8. The creation process creates an "index.html" for me and automatically opens it
9. Create a new file test.css in the Site Root folder by clicking the right button on "Site Root"->New->Cascading Style Sheet File->Change name to "test.css", leave other options as default, and then "Finish"
10. Copy and paste the code from your previous post to test.css, then "Save" it
11. Switch to file "index.html", insert an empty line after the last metatag, and fill it with <link href="test.css" rel="stylesheet" />, then "Save"
12. Place caret behind the div of the div-Element in the body and enter class="
13. Call code completion (CTRL+Space)
14. It works.
15. And then I close this project and open an existing project, waiting for everything loaded and try it again, it works too. but with an error:

Thank you for the retest. The exception you are seeing was regrettably not caught before 18 was released. The fix for it is in master and will be part of NetBeans 19. That problem only affects JS scanning.
But is the problem gone for your own projects also? If not, you could try to strip down an existing project until you find the setup, that reproduces the problem without leaking internals.

Where do you expect CSS class names to be completed, how does your source look, what do you type, what do you expect?

See the NO.15, YES, surprisingly! Even the other projects seem to be working fine now. I'm not entirely sure why they suddenly started working, all I did was uninstall and then reinstall the same application.
Anyway, the problem has been resolved and I really appreciate your help!
