bug 19642 - how to hide gridlines on an excel sheet
Hi,
I had posted this bug long back. Now Iv got a mail saying that it has
been resolved n the resolution is invalid. Can somebody help me interpret
what this means. On the bugzilla query page, I could not find any
information to help me find how this was an invalid bug.
If yes, then where was i going wrong...n what should i do to solve my
problem of hiding gridlines(background lines) on excel sheet. Below is a
detailed description of the problem.
I have been using the apache.poi.hssf package for my project. I have
made
an excel sheet using HSSFSheet class in org.apache.poi.hssf.usermodel
package.
This class has the following 2 member functions for setting properties of
gridlines on the sheet.
void setGridsPrinted(boolean value)
void setPrintGridlines(boolean newPrintGridlines)
I tried to hide the gridlines using both these functions but they are not
working. On the printout there are no gridlines but on the excel sheet that
i view on my PC i still see them in the background. Where am i going wrong?
The exact code is given below.
import org.apache.poi.poifs.filesystem.POIFSFileSystem;
import org.apache.poi.hssf.usermodel.*;
import org.apache.poi.hssf.util.*;
HSSFWorkbook wb;
HSSFSheet sheet;
HSSFRow sheet_row;
.....
{ ....
FileReader fr= new FileReader("abc.txt");
BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(fr);
String sheetName="abc";
String fileName ="xyz.xls";
FileOutputStream fileOut = new FileOutputStream(fileName);
wb = new HSSFWorkbook();
sheet = wb.createSheet(sheetName);
sheet.setGridsPrinted(false);
sheet.setPrintGridlines(false);
....
....
wb.write(fileOut);
fileOut.close();
fr.close();
}
Regards,
Arshi

The problem is that it is a QUESTION more appropriate for the mail list.
You filed it as a bug report. The subject "how to...". Lots of the bugs
were like this (questions not bugs/patches) and they were all closed as
invalid.
I do not BTW know whether we support gridlines or not, but I'm sure someone
here does :-)
