Summary: JUnit report XSL sheet needs to escape XML in the trace
Product: Ant
Version: 1.7Alpha (nightly)
Platform: Other
URL: http://people.apache.org/~stevel/cddlm/interop/ourgrid/o
rg/smartfrog/services/deployapi/test/system/alpine/deplo
yapi/api/creation/1_Api_06_system_properties_Test.html
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: Optional Tasks
AssignedTo: dev@ant.apache.org
ReportedBy: stevel@apache.org
I have unit tests whose fault output includes the full SOAPFault:
http://people.apache.org/~stevel/cddlm/interop/ourgrid/org/smartfrog/services/deployapi/test/system/alpine/deployapi/api/creation/1_Api_06_system_properties_Test.html
When this is turned into the reports, the XML in the fault is not escaped. This
means that the XML is hidden, only the content shown. Or more importantly, active
XHTML could be snuck into the test report. We should either escape the < and >
symbols, or make the results CDATA

Steve,
can you attach the xml testresult file that was written by your JUnit test to
this bug?
Regards, Jan

Hi Steve,
if a stack trace has a message "<foo> does not like <bar>", would we also have
problems reading it ?
Do I understand well that the fix should be done in the xml formatter of the
junit task ?
Antoine

I cant find a report to hand, though I can try to regenerate one.
The main thing is that when we generate the test reports, the stack traces need
to be CDATA escaped. XSLT will handle the rest of the problem. If were extra
paraniod, even the test name. You can generate tests with a new name, just by
passing different stuff to the ctor of the test case in a Test Suite method...
public MyTestCase extends TestCase {
public MyTestCase(String s) { super(s);}
public static TestSuite suite() {
TestSuite s=new TestSuite();
s.add(new MyTestCase("<script>....</script>");
return s;
}
}
