BAD SYMBOL

TO HOME IT MAY CONCERN:

I am a beginner with OpenOffice. On the text editor I must have hit a key
accidently. Now every word is preceded by a symbol that looks like the
letter P backwards, and it annoying flashes all the time. I’m afraid that
it might prevent accuratgne print outs. How do I get rid of it?

Thank you for your attention.

You have turned on /View /Non printing characters. Use that same command to turn it off - it is non printing. If the Standard Toolbar is displayed (a tick against Standard in /View /Toolbars) you can also turn it off by pressing the "Backwards P" button on the toolbar.
