When you do get to finished logo designs, please don't forget to include
a (TM) in the image.

RE: Apache Stratos Logo

Posted by Jonathan Marsh <jo...@wso2.com>.
I appreciate including rationale for the decisions – it advances the
conversation beyond personal preference to what will be in the best
interest of the project.

I also appreciate a minimal design, where the ability to reproduce and
recognize the logo in a wide variety of contexts (small sizes, t-shirts,
inverted coloring) contributes to the development of the brand. Many of
the logos I admire have been distilled to their essence, are accessible to
the color-blind, etc.

For me #1 is at least as strong as the more embellished versions (3 colors,
gradients, font manipulation), while better serving the many contexts this
logo may be called upon to serve.

I order of preference: 1, 3, 7

(This also happens to be order of design simplicity.)

Re: Apache Stratos Logo

Posted by David Nalley <da...@gnsa.us>.
Not saying that you should necessarily follow this model, but
CloudStack has a directory in our SVN tree for such resources:
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/cloudstack/media/

And we reference that as the official set of images. It keeps it out
of our source code, but still in version control, and accessible for
folks who might need it.

Great work Amal on the logos. Can you please also contribute the entire press kit. Typically this includes favicon, the icns icon, and a powered by Stratos and/or Stratos Inside logos.

Also, a website banner with the logo embedded will be great.

Re: Apache Stratos Logo

Posted by Paul Fremantle <pa...@wso2.com>.
Firstly I think there is a mistake in the table - #1 only got 3 votes

Here is the summary of the STV process.

In the STV the winning logo needs 15 votes to win (>50% of 28 votes in all).

In the first round of STV, #4 was closest and got 13 votes (not enough to
win).

In the second round, we eliminate the lowest voted logo (#3). Those votes
get reallocated giving the following vote tallies:

#1 - 3
#2 gets 1 more vote - 7
#3 - eliminated
#4 - 13
#5 - one more vote -5

We still have no outright winner, so now we eliminate #1.

In the third round we have:

#1 eliminated. All three of those votes go to number 2, giving the latest
tally:
#2 - 10 votes
#4 - 13
#5 - 5

Now we eliminate #5 and look where it's votes go:

Three of them go to logo #4, and one to logo #2 (the fifth vote doesn't go
anywhere as there was no further preference after [3,5]

Hence the final tally is

#4 - 16 votes
#2 - 11 votes.

Therefore #4 is the winner.

Paul

PS I should have used some software, but Lakmal did all the hard work.
Thanks Lakmal!

Re: Apache Stratos Logo

Posted by Lakmal Warusawithana <la...@wso2.com>.
Hi folks,

We need to finalized the logo. Many folks like to latest design. Shall we
start a vote for choose one out of these? As matrix said chose is the
problem :) .
One person can only vote for 1 logo. Don't say +1 for #3 and #7 ....

Amal Can you start this. Please change correct numbering (currently we have
1, 3, 4 ...) when listing logos.

thanks

Re: Apache Stratos Logo

Posted by Ruwan Yatawara <ru...@wso2.com>.
Out of the lot No. 3 (listed 2nd) seems to be the best looking. The design
is simple, yet meaningful without much clutter.

However, just a thought : at a glance the cloud in the middle (the white
one against blue) appears to be, rather out of place.

Thanks,
Ruwan

I like #3 (second in the list). But for me, it would be better to make the
font color for "Stratos", a bit dark in it, like in #7. This would make the
visibility of the name more clear, when used in slides, webapages, etc.

Thanks,
Kishanthan.
