[DISCUSS] 2.5.1 Bug Fix Release
Hello all,
I'd like to volunteer as release manager for the 2.5.1 bugfix release.
Kafka 2.5.0 was released on 15 April 2020, and 40 issues have been fixed since then.
The release plan is documented here:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/KAFKA/Release+Plan+2.5.1
Thanks,
-John

Hello all,
Sorry again for the delay. While completing the RC, I found and had
to fix a broken system test. However, I've just created the vote thread
for 2.5.1 RC0! Please take a look at it and let me know what you think.
Thanks,
-John

Hello again, all,
Just in case you were waiting for the RC, I wanted to give a quick
update. I got hung up in the first-time setup for cutting a release
and wasn't able to finish it last Friday. I'm getting ready to record a talk
for Kafka Summit tomorrow, after which I'll be able to pick up the RC
again. I'll send another update when it's ready.
Apologies for the delay.
Thanks,
-John

Hello, all,
Thanks for you patience. KAFKA-10134 was the last blocker for
2.5.1, and it has been resolved. In fact, there are currently no
open bugs at all for 2.5.1.
I will be proceeding to cut 2.5.1 RC0 tomorrow, and I'll send an
announcement email when it is ready.
Thanks,
-John

Hello again, all,
Another status update:
We have just merged the fix for blocker:
KAFKA-10049 KTable-KTable Foreign Key join throwing Serialization Exception
There are currently two tickets blocking the 2.5.1 release:
KAFKA-9891 Invalid state store content after task migration with exactly_once and standby replicas
KAFKA-10123 Regression resetting offsets in consumer when fetching from old broker
Once these blockers are resolved, I'll cut the RC0 for validation.
The full details are on:

Thanks,
-John
