Basically, your SOL. Win98 cant even run wamp2, apache1.0.2, php2, mysql1.0.

I have no clue why you are so reluctant because PHP is availible on
all platforms now (in fact, windows is only recent -- php2 was the
first version to be released for windows. windows 2000 to be exact.)
Linux is going to be alot more stable for what you want. I have one
(1) windows apache php mysql machine and it has its issues (usually
because PHP5 was NOT made for windows, it was made for Linux/UNIX.)

Ubuntu server (6.06 is really stable) has an option to install Apache,
PHP and MySQL out of the box -- just select "LAMP INSTALL" from the
boot menu.

if you HAVE to use windows though, 2000 is the only route that sounds
like it should be able to handle your hardware.

Why in the world would you want to continue running Windows 98?

Microsoft no longer supports it and most software vendors (and open
source projects) stopped developing for it a long time ago.

Upgrade your OS. If you want to stick with Windows, update to at
least Windows XP, Vista would be better if your hardware can support
it. Both of those versions are still supported by Microsoft with
security and bug fixes and both are supported by the majority of
software vendors if they are doing Windows development.

XP is Windows. Xampp works fine with Windows XP. Windows 98 is almost
10 years old (maybe older) -- time to get a more modern OS if you want
to run xampp. ISTR that I was able to run a very early version of
xampp on Windows 98, but it's been so long that I really can't
remember how it functioned.

I'e had this problem too -- seems to be related to having win98... I'd
go for either updating to an NT kernel (check out 2000 or XP -- not
Vista), or a linux server. look at a LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL PHP)
such as Ubuntu 6.06 Server with a LAMP install.
