Here is how to do it from the command line:

Basically you want to copy the folder in the repository to HEAD. Doing
this with TSVN is very easy if you happen to have that.

RE: deleted directories cannot be retrieved in old revision?

Sorry I forgot to say that in revision 5220 I didn't have the .../trunk/...
in the revision the path was
https://sagan/svn/projects/Quotations/3Q-2008/220
so in revision 5429 the path became
https://sagan/svn/projects/Quotations/trunk/3Q-2008/220
and in revision 5702 the user deleted several directories underneath it...
how can I retrieve it?
Thank you,
Olavo Lira

Subject: deleted directories cannot be retrieved in old revision?
Hi,
I'm having a strange behavior (at least in my point of view). I try
the command bellow and I receive the following error.
checkout https://sagan/svn/projects/Quotations/trunk/3Q-2008/220 -r 5220
--depth=infinity --force
Bad URL passed to RA layer
svn: URL 'https://sagan/svn/projects/Quotations/trunk/3Q-2008/220' doesn't
exist
The point is that in one revision after 5220, a user deleted several
directories and now I want to retrieve this information.
What am I doing wrong?
The server is in version 1.5.1.
Thank you,

You use merging to put the directories back. If you just want to look at
the deleted dirs you need to read up on Peg Revisions:
http://svnbook.red-bean.com/en/1.5/svn-book.html#svn.advanced.pegrevs
For your checkout command you just need to add "@5220" to the end of
your url:
checkout -r5220
https://sagan/svn/projects/Quotations/trunk/3Q-2008/220@5220
The "@5220" rolls the repository back in time and displays the directory
structure at the time of 5220. If you don't use "@5220" then "-r 5220"
tries to find the directory in the current (HEAD) directory structure.

Excellent. So if I ever had the need to pass information between the
pre-commit and post-commit hooks, I could pass the info using a special
revision property created by the pre-commit hook.

It is OK to modify the revision properties (log, author, date) just
not the versioned contents.

Wait a minute. I thought the official line was that modifying a
transaction was a bad thing?

Right, you can easily change the log message in the post-commit
script using "svnadmin setlog".
In the pre-commit script you don't have a revision yet; you have a
transaction, and there is no command-line program that lets you
change the log message of a transaction. However I believe you can do
it if you write a program using one of the Subversion language
bindings (Python, Perl, etc.)

In theory, if you can link the pre-commit transaction to the post commit
revision number, you can set the values in the post-commit hook. Ex:
if the check-in is transaction 1234, which becomes revision 199, you
could add your custom values to the svn:log attribute for revision 199
in the post-commit hook.
However, I don't think that's possible out of the box. One idea, which
may or may not be sane or practical, is to use 'svnlook changed
--transaction' and 'svnlook cat --transaction' in the pre-commit hook to
generate an md5 hash. Create a temp file using the md5 hash as the name
and put the custom values in the file. During the post-commit hook, use
'svnlook changed --revision' and 'svnlook cat --revision' to generate
the md5. Look to see if a file with that md5 hash for a name already
exists. If so, then use 'svnadmin setlog' to add the custom values to
the log message. However, keyword expansion might mangle the
post-commit md5 value.
Again, it's just an idea, and I make no claims to practicality.
