Interoperability of Mondrian and Drill, Origin of Mondrian tests
Hi all,
first, a few general questions:
- Can you recommend using Mondrian with Drill in general?
- How about maturity and stability?
- What has been tested under which scenario?
I can across the Drill-Test Framework (
https://github.com/mapr/drill-test-framework/tree/master/framework/resources/Advanced/mondrian
) and the Mondrian tests. Is this the "recommended" test suite to test
Mondrian with Drill?
<https://github.com/mapr/drill-test-framework/tree/master/framework/resources/Advanced/mondrian>
A few further questions according the test framework:
- How have the test queries been generated?
- Is there any relationship to the Mondrian tests in
https://github.com/pentaho/mondrian/tree/master/testsrc ?
- How is the status of the tests in the test framework?
- Is it reasonable to execute the queries against Drill that is
configured to access a PostgreSQL (equipped with the foodmart database) via
the JDBC Storage Plugin ?
Many thanks in advance
Martin

@Tom: Thanks for your input.
Still and I assume I need to concretise my question:
- Is it recommended to use Mondrian on top of Apache Drill (with JDBC
Storage connecting to a PostgreSQL DB)
- If so, which versions are recommended?
- Who has practical experiences with such setup or who can contribute
his experiences?
- Is Drill ready for productive use with Mondrian?
- What are difficulties and problems one has to expect?
- Is the approach Mondrian -> Drill (JDBC Storage) reasonable? Or
should one prefer Drill with a different storage plugin (Hive, etc.) if
using Mondrian?
Any help is highly appreciated, thanks
Martin

Tom,
That sounds very interesting. Do you have a quick how-to for a Saiku beginner how to configure it to use Drill?

Uwe

Hi Martin
I can't talk from a Drill development standpoint, but Drill depends a lot on Apache Calcite for the JDBC side of stuff, and in Saiku (external non apache project) we've been using Calcite without any major issues against Mondrian 4. I tested Saiku over Drill a few weeks ago and it worked well I can't see any obvious issues in day to day testing, of course that doesn't count as unit testing but it connects and queries fine. It also helps that Julian wrote Mondrian and Calcite ;)

Hi Martin
I can't talk from a Drill development standpoint, but Drill depends a lot
on Apache Calcite for the JDBC side of stuff, and in Saiku (external non
apache project) we've been using Calcite without any major issues against
Mondrian 4. I tested Saiku over Drill a few weeks ago and it worked well I
can't see any obvious issues in day to day testing, of course that doesn't
count as unit testing but it connects and queries fine. It also helps that
Julian wrote Mondrian and Calcite ;)
