PHP and Apache

Hi, I have a question about configuration. How do I tell the Apache web 
server the directory of php without having the header line in each script. I 
have put in 'AddHandler cgi-script .php' and enabled cgi on the web sites 
directory. So now I get Internal Server Error (as I expected).
