Totally for that! We can then update the archetype as often as we like, and
even create a few more options.

Andy.

Yes - We have been waiting for an OpenJPA release. Other than that, we are
ready to go. I would still like to be release manager for this one unless
there are any objections to that. In terms of going ahead without the
OpenJPA update, I think Romain had a couple of patches for a couple of JIRA
tickets. Not sure what they are - Romain, perhaps you could add a couple of
links here when you have a second?

If that, or anything else, fails then I think we should go ahead. There
won't be a problem doing 1.7.3 if we need to.
We have been plugging the 1.7.2 for quite a while already.

Already gave them in another thread, Each time a release was not done by a
PMC the release was broken (or the release was out before it shoudl have
been = site was broken compared to central for instance), You can check JCS
for the last example. If a guy can't handle the whole release then it is
not a release manager, Think it is easy enough to understand. Only PMC can
do the whole chain so only PMC can be release manager.

+1, yes it is a good idea to be split out into a separate sub project

+1, keep it under PMC control. I don’t like to end up with all the pain we had in Maven when parts were done on codehouse _without_ pmc control. That TOTALLY sucked and hurts us since years.

Yes, does not change the original issue, but still it's wrong.
There is no theory versus reality just people willing or not to do releases.

well the difference with what you say and what I say is theory vs reality

Agree on the ovrerall idea but not sure it is consistent with the project.

That said I like the idea to not keep archetypes in tomee and move them in
another sub project. Contrarly to mvn plugin they arent really bound to our
runtime. Plus we can release them only on maven which means we dont need a
pmc for it :).

Wdyt? Do we need a vote for it?

Re: Fwd: tomee git commit: Versions

Posted by Andy <an...@gmx.de>.
It has nothing to do with TomEE compile, rather the runtime for new
archetype projects. Don't know about you, but I haven't seen, created or
run a new TomEE project on jdk6 for over 3 years.

Even Java 7 'End of life' is here...
https://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java_7.xml

So I think it makes sense to encourage 'new' archetype projects to run
under 1.7, and if someone needs to run 1.6 then it's an easy edit.

Andy.
