JSPWiki page has been deleted from Wikipedia

Hi All,

Referring to the notes here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JSPWiki

Any suggestions about how to get it back? I don't think this is quite
right - and certainly does no good for the visibility of the
application. Happy to pitch in if needed...

Cheers,

You should be able to simply recreate the page without any conflict.

The contant, must be verifiable (include references) and not contain
copyrighted material or the page maybe deleted again.

At least MediaWiki is the software wikipedia runs on. So I think that
makes it kind of notable. ;-)

I would ask them, "What makes MoinMoin or MediaWiki more notable than
JSPWiki?" after all, iirc JSPWiki was, at one stage, the default wiki
included in MacOS. If notability it a real issue, then the ONLY wiki
worthy of inclusion would be WardsWiki, imho.

Bad news: their complete answer I got is at bottom of the following page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Seraphimblade

I propose we do not despair and make progress on Apache incubation before trying to rebuild a Wikipedia page.

Courage!

Shame on them!

I wrote this to the deleter:
Hi! I added few days ago few explanations about why the JSPWiki community would had liked some tolerance and support before being deleted from Wikipedia.
The problem with deletion is that everything disappear, discussion included! I will not repeat here the arguments but please understand that if you work hard keeping Wikipedia coherent, there is also people working hard to make a nice open-source software, people who may not be proficient at documenting in Wikipedia. We are in the midst of Apache graduation and this is in a way too much to handle: please understand and put things in a way we can progress and not stumble. If you have precise requests, please do not hesitate to ask, we will make our best. [[Christophe Dupriez]]

I added this to the "Discussion" of the Wikipedia JSPWiki page:

Searching in Wikipedia, one can learn that JSPWiki is part of the history of Wikis development and also the basis of important Wikis like the ones of JBOSS and GlassFish. Generally speaking, the flexibility of JSPWiki, one of the rare amenable Java based Wiki software, has served many public institutions in opening their content to different community of practice (I was responsible for it at Belgium Poison Centre). The JSPWiki community will now do its best to document this and we therefore ask kindly for your help: free software development is difficult and it is the addition of good wills that makes it possible. Thank you! [[User:Christophe Dupriez]]

My 3 cents on this:

1) This provocation can be seen helpful in the sense that it pushes us to look and find some references.

2) Just to document other initiatives like JBoss Wiki, Wikipedia should document JSPWiki

3) Czarkoff has something to prove, nothing to do with a small group like ours or JSPWiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Czarkoff/essays/Businesses_are_rarely_notable
I suggest us be very careful to not feed an anger where we are not the real stake: to improve quietly the existing page (looking at German and French one) but, more important, by modifying other pages mentioning JSPWiki to make them point to it.

I suggest we find articles in Wikipedia which need to refer to JSPWiki and add links there...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_wikis
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_JBoss_software
One very simple way to detect all the source links in Google Search:
site:en.wikipedia.org "jspwiki" -"JAMWiki JSPWIKI"

Another important step would be to interview Jane about the people he knows who forked JSPWiki or use it for humanitarian or very public uses... (Jane are you there?)

Hi,

if it's going to be deleted, we could also place that content under
http://incubator.apache.org/jspwiki/ under something like an "About" page
or so (like an extended Home). At least the content won't be lost..

I'm thinking that we could also set up an "Used by" page at incubator's

Sigh. I don't think anything is going to satisfy that editor anytime
soon. I think the only thing I can do is continue to promote JSPWiki out
in the wild, and hopefully it becomes a bit more "notable" in the eyes

Do you see that the nomination for deletion returned on the 27th?

There's also a rhetorical question in the talk page

Re: JSPWiki page has been deleted from Wikipedia

A couple of pointers any volunteer may wish to add ...

http://www.wikimatrix.org/show/JSPWiki
https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/mydeveloperworks/blogs/dwcloudtrial/entry/installing_jspwiki_using_a_virtual_application_pattern_vap?lang=en

However I see there is a serious problem in 'None of these help with
notability: the first is primary (not to mention that usage doesn't show
notability anyway)'

We ha ve a long list of things, where however there are only a very few
things that can be really seen, and among these the 'heavy names'
sometimes end up being false
(e.g GlassFish is no more on jspwiki - and it is also written:
'GlassFish Wiki uses Confluence technology
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confluence_%28software%29>. Earlier
versions of the wiki were hosted on JSPWiki')
which I suspect ends up to being one of the worst things that can happen
in wikipedia and surely 'downgrade' any entry.

I suspect that list would need some serious reorganization and check -
aka gardening ... Sorry I wish to have the time to do it but inreality I
haven't so i cant
help more on this ...

As Quinary we use Jspwiki internally, have used to support a European
R&D projects, and use it in 4 intranets for big law firms and lawyers
associations, but
unfortunately all of these are 'closed' wikis so can scarecely help here ..

Re: JSPWiki page has been deleted from Wikipedia

FYI, I started the talk page for the article and the admin doesn't like
these arguments for notability:

"None of these help with notability: the first is primary (not to mention
that usage doesn't show notability anyway), the second – self-published and
the third lacks depth. The same goes for all the references that were in
the article. – Dmitrij D. Czarkoff<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Czarkoff>
 (talk <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Czarkoff>) 07:52, 17 July
2012 (UTC) "

so there's some work to do. (Good luck, Dave! Rather you than me! :-) )

Actually, it looks like Wikipedia has a process for requesting pages to
be undeleted which I have taken the liberty of filling out:

Hi Dave,

I know both language versions, and the German one is not a 1 by 1 translation of the English one. So this should be considered as the very last option.

Hmm, there is a German version: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/JSPWiki

I don't speak German, but I could run it through Google Translate and clear
up the wording. Could be good as a start.

Cheers,
Dave

that would be nice Dave.
To be honest I tried to find some cached copy somewhere on the internet
yesterday, but could not find one.
So if we could get (part of) the original wikipedia articel back again,
that would be nice.

kind regards,
Harry

Not off the top of my head, but I might get my hands dirty and try some

Hi Dave,

thanks for reporting! I had a look at it, the reason was "lack of notability", which is certainly not correct. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:NSOFT

Here are some links on proving its notability:

* Usage in corporations: http://www.jspwiki.org/wiki/JSPWikiSites#section-JSPWikiSites-Corporations
* JSPWiki is used in the Liferay portal server: http://www.liferay.com/de/community/forums/-/message_boards/view_message/3363055#_19_message_3363055
* Recent article in a well-known german computer magazine on social software at Apache, referring to JSPWiki: http://www.heise.de/developer/artikel/Federlesen-9-Social-Software-bei-der-Apache-Software-Foundation-1626106.html

Anyone out there who knows how to re-establish the page and how to get the content back?

Regards
 Florian

Hi All,

Referring to the notes here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JSPWiki

Any suggestions about how to get it back? I don't think this is quite
right - and certainly does no good for the visibility of the
application. Happy to pitch in if needed...

Cheers,
