Build failure: build-commons-el: jakarta-commons\el does not exist
When attempting a build with a completely clean, new set of
files, "build-commons-el" reports:
BUILD FAILED
file:C:/java/tomcat5/jakarta-tomcat-5/build.xml:471: Basedir
C:\java\tomcat5\jakarta-commons\el does not exist
I have been receiving this same error for many days now. I
haven't found a mention of this error anywhere in the mail
archives, and so suspect that there's a problem at my end.
However, given that by following the build instructions
there are very few opportunities to screw things up, I don't
see what I could be doing wrong. Also, I had successfully
built Tomcat5 about a month ago.
By the way, during a casual comparison of the root level
build.xml and the jakarta-tomcat-5 build.xml I see that the
root level's build.xml doesn't fetch the commons-el stuff
from cvs but the jakarta-tomcat-5 build.xml does. This
doesn't seem right, and I wonder if this is the cause of my
problem.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Doug

I got the same problem when I grabbed the cvs copy on saturday, I
eventually got evrything working by downloading some of the required
files by hand and re-running the build. Also I got a Jasper 2 error
whilst compiling some of the taglibs, but the build didn't fail, and
the tomcat 5 server would run, but I couldn't access the admin pages.
I should really figure out exactly what was happening, but I haven't
had time since.
