RE: Apache and Front Page server extensi
Daniel (or anyone else who can help!) -
Can you help with DAV issues?!?!?!? I am currently working with a Windows
2000 server and have installed Apache 2.0.39. The goal is to allow users of
the LAN to store, download, edit, and upload files to a folder on the
server, without making them users of the server itself. I am looking at how
to do this with DAV but find VERY little out there about how to, espcially
troubleshooting problems. Currently everyone can view and download the files
but to allow them to upload and edit, etc. it seems they each need to have
web folders activated and I have been unsuccessful setting up web folders for
anyone but myself on my own machine but since I am a user on the server
also, I am guessing this is why I was successful. I added DAV on for the
<Directory> I am interested in using and added allow for all (of our network)
in the same place in my Apache configuration files but this hasn't seemed to
help. I do not know if the read/write access for the network users to do
this needs to be in Apache or in Windows and don't know what more to try,
whichever one it is.
Also, do you know if web folders (which I am under the impression must be
set up to allow all this) are possible in Windows 98 or only in Windows 2000?
I have seen Office 2000 mentioned but nothing about if it is specific to a
version of Windows. This could be VERY important as we want this ability to
be workable for everyone and some people will be working with Windows 98.
I have been very frustrated with the lack of documentation I have been able
to find about the nuts and bolts how to with DAV and setting up clients to
use it and help troubleshooting. I find lots about WHAT it is, but not much
else. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you.
Connie

What about using DAV? This is what Microsoft calls web folders. You can
develop with frontpage (create the pages, links, etc.) and publish it using
DAV
