Yeah, the idea here is not that we don't like Struts 2, but that there are *ton* of frameworks that could potentially be supported under Shiro's umbrella, which would be difficult to maintain and support given our focus on security. Other projects like Tapestry, Grails, Wicket, Mule, Camel, and others typically host Shiro integration in their own projects since they have a much clearer understanding of where security touch points would be within their own frameworks.
That being said, it might be a good idea to have a community-accessible 'sandbox' where anyone can try these integration efforts to lower the barrier to entry of people integrating/using Shiro in whatever environment they need. We should probably talk about this on the user list to see if there'd be interest in such a thing.
My .02 :)

Alan, should we remove version 1.2.0 for this and put it in a backlog?

The people on this Shiro project. :)
It was decided that things like support and samples for external projects should be done outside the project.

Sorry, I missed [1] when I looked for discussion of this. Sounds reasonable to use Apache-Extras or a Github or an SF project (with appropriate disclaimers) to host contrib modules. Struts itself has used SF for this kind of thing for years [2]. The examples bundled with the distro are very useful, though. It comes down to a judgement call what ends up included in the project. Sorry I missed [1].
