Intake: Optional DateString

Hi. I'd like to have an optional DateString. I have one format rule in 
the field: "M/d/y h.mm a" and it works great as long as I enter a date 
in the field. I tried a second format rule ("format1") with an empty 
string for the value, but the prompt from the first field appears when I 
try to submit the form with the DateString field empty. What's the trick 
to getting an optional DateString field? Thanks.
