new logo top
hi
please feedback on the enclosed gifs which are both
snapshots from local html in opera 5 (for a change).
because i dont have the source format of the logo things may
look a bit ugly but please focus on concept.
*new_logo_curve_op5_mac.gif
this introduces a new idea, because there are some problems
with the new logo's use of gray in the wording "mod" and our
background-image which uses a similar gray. so i skipped the
gray from the background and tried to "pep" up the feeling
of a menu area seperated from a content area using that
little curve at the top.
i also had the idea to put in a very small apache-feather
bend with the curve, but that is probably over the top :)
*new_logo_graybg_op5_mac.gif
this also deals with the fact that we use almost the same
gray as the new logo, so i simply took the liberty to
replace the gray lettering of "mod" to white.
i tend to like the logo as it is, ie with a white
background. if anyone has any idea of how "solve" this in a
fine design-way please shout!
./allan

Yes, I agree with Stas: the second one looks great, and it will have less
problems with browsers.
Not that the first one doesn't look great, it does, but it might cause some
problems.

In fact, I don't favor the idea of going back to all white-bg. If you
stare at the two snaphots you will realize that it's much easier to
concentrate on the content when the menu bar is using a different color.
I think this is more of usability nit, rather than design one.

the question is whether the curve on the first one will render properly
everywhere.

that would be cool. hmm, may be if the camel comes at the top of the
page we can tackle the feather somewhere in the bottom? e.g. the left
bottom corner?

that seems ok to me. we can revert colours to adjust to the bg.

I'm placing my vote with the curve.
It's very clean, the curve gives that nice organic feeling, and good
separation of content. The line separates the menus like the gray/blue
background does, so it offers the same function, but is just cleaner. The
curve gives some artistic flair, without trying to look too fancy. I like
it.
I could be leaning strongly to that new design for just that reason -- that
it's "new".
I won't argue any technical issues (like it won't render) until there's a
test site.

Agreed! I think the camel touch was a good solution over by itself on the
right side. I just wish he was animated. ;)
