[Bug 124055] New: when a frame within a page is formatted to multicolumn, that format is lost when the file is saved

https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=124055

            Bug ID: 124055
        Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: when a frame within a page is formatted to
multicolumn, that format is lost when the file is
                    saved
           Product: Writer
           Version: 4.0.1
          Hardware: PC
                OS: Windows 7
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: major
          Priority: P3
         Component: formatting
          Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
          Reporter: rousu@frontier.com
                CC: issues@openoffice.apache.org

see the field for the second part of the page

I created two columns. I think I tried saving it in .doc and in native form
from writer. When you come back and open the saved file, the second column
does not show up. The info in the second column is still somewhere in the
file, because you can reformat the field from the single column that shows,
back to two columns. The problems are that you cannot send the file to anybody
without mightily confusing them, and many new users may not realize that the
info has not been lost.

This bug showed up when I was on a trip and did not know the column had not
been lost. Big panic.

Created attachment 82316

Simple Sample

Effect is more or less reproducible with a more simple sample document and
"AOO 4.0.1 – German UI / German locale [Rev. 1524958 2013-09-20 11:40:29]"
on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", “historic” 4.0 User Profile used for
all predecessor versions

1. From AOO Start center open attached "SimpleSample.odt"
2. Save as "SimpleSample.doc" (MSO97)
3. Exit AOO
4. Open "SimpleSample.doc" with AOO or MS WORD VIEWER or SoftMaker FreOffice
   TextMaker
Always the same, Columns lost in Frame

but is that a bug?

Additional Info:
----------------
(a) Same result when I save from other software
(a1) LibreOffice 4.1
(a2) Softmaker
Always the saved document.doc will show missing columns in frame. when
  reopen with arbitrary software
So that might be a limitation of WORD.DOC format?

(c) I did some tests with MS Office Starter WORD 2010. I was able to apply
columns at various test areas, but not in Frames, there the icon
for 'Columns' is greyed out. Seems to be a WORD Frames format limitation
(d) Due to (c) not an AOO bug
