michellethomas opened a new issue #6385: Viz Flow not detecting date columns when dtype is STRING
URL: https://github.com/apache/incubator-superset/issues/6385

In the sqllab to visualize flow, dates that are stored as strings are not detected as a date. With the new viz flow where we don't have a modal between sqllab and explore, it can be confusing for users to know how to format their data. They can use the datasource editor to do this now (!), but newer users may not know about that feature.

Is there a way we can better detect if a string is a date? If not, maybe there's some null state we could add to the time column drop down that would link you to the modal with instructions on how to set the time column?

   - [x] I have checked the superset logs for python stacktraces and included it here as text if there are any.
   - [x] I have reproduced the issue with at least the latest released version of superset.
   - [x] I have checked the issue tracker for the same issue and I haven't found one similar.
