Description:
Everything seems to work okay when I use 'forrest' at the command line until Cocoon takes over. Here, Java throws an exception while processing 'linkmap.html'.

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_07/jre/lib/i386/libawt.so:

This issue has been resolved.
XFree86-libs needed to be installed and forrest.jvmargs=-Djava.awt.headless=true needed to be set.
Everything works great!

When Cocoon takes over, Forrest starts a new java process for it. The error message you are reporting seems to indicate that the JRE is not installed correctly. Try fixing the JRE and/or searching for bug reports in your distro's support forums.
