[VOTE] TomEE 8.0.0-M3 (staging-1135)
Ok, finally vote time!
Maven Repo:
https://repository.apache.org/content/repositories/orgapachetomee-1135/
Binaries & Source:
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/tomee/staging-1135/tomee-8.0.0-M3
I'll create the tag in git if the vote passes.
Vote will be open for 72 hours or as needed.
If someone would like to help with cleaning JIRA for the release notes, that would be fantastic.

+1, will be great to cross the line with the M3 which has lots of changes
since M2. We should get valuable feedback from it.

Well sure, but if there is a regression with BVal for the moment, why would
we upgrade it on purpose?
Sure it will be faster to boot, but it won't work as expected. At least it
needs more investigation as far as I understood.
I think for an M3 it's ok to be a bit slower bu at least have something
that works. What do you think?

I didn't feel making a decision alone to add a breaking change, so I grabbed the bval code as far up to the change as I could.
I'll happily volunteer my time to do another release even next week if we come to some decision on how we want to handle it. In fact I would love to do it while all the steps are fresh in mind and put some work into refining the process a bit.
Everything Romain lists in BVAL-175 are all valid options. If we want to make a breaking change, in the milestone phase of a major release is the best time to do it.

Its still in vote. I'm a little swamped but I'll try and complete my review
today. I wouldn't -1 it because of the extra libraries, providing their
licenses are suitable and the LICENSE and NOTICE files are ok. (i.e., I'd
only -1 it if there's a legal issue, which I just want to finish checking).
Everything else looks ok.

Thanks for the binary comparison. Looks like we'd need a reroll.
We also need to be putting something in place so we can move discussions like this out of release-time and closer to merge-time.
Even a shell script ran from Buildbot would get the job done.

Re: [VOTE] TomEE 8.0.0-M3 (staging-1135)
Posted by Jonathan Gallimore <jo...@gmail.com>.
Currently reviewing, but compared with M2, we're pulling in some
interesting new deps:
ant-1.10.5
ant-launcher-1.10.5
asm-all-5.0.3
codemodel-2.3.2
commons-collections4-4.3 (as well as commons-collections-3.2.2)
ecj4.10
FastInfoset-1.2.16
istack-commons-runtime-3.0.8
istack-commons-tools-3.0.8
jakarta.xml.bind-api-2.3.2
jaxb-runtime-2.3.2
jaxb-xjc-2.3.2
relaxng-datatype-2.3.2
stax-ex-1.8.1
xsom-2.3.2
I suspect some of that is Java 11 related, but for things like ant, asm,
codemodel, commons-collections4-4.3, I'd like to understand where these
dependencies have come from, and check we have the right LICENSE/NOTICE
updates.
I'll review as quick as I can, but I suspect it'll be Monday before I vote.
