Oracle Database backend????

Has anyone thought of using Oracle as the database backend instead of
BerkeleyDB?

I think I read some where on this list about a month or so back  that 
one of the many, many, things on the developer's TODO list is to make 
the back end DB indepent - or at least support a wider range of databases.
